The City Council is constituting and supervisional authority in the city. The Council consists of councilors chosen by the residents of city in public election. The councilors are chosen every 4 years, counting from the day of election. Present City Council counts 23 councilors.
The tasks of The City Council are:
- approving of the statute of City as well as of other acts of local law,
- approving of the budget of City
- appointing and rescission of The Secretary of City, The Treasurer of City, who is accountant of budget at the same time, Manager of Registry Office and his deputies - on the proposal of the President of City.
- approving of the local plans of city's development,
- deciding about taxes and payments,
- responsible for arranging long-term loans and credits for the city,
- awarding for services for city Ostrołęka, of the honorable citizenship of city as well as of other distinctions according to examples and bases determined by the council,
