Wiktor Gomulicki’s Municipal Public Library
The library is the largest library in the region. It has been operating since 1936 satisfying readership, educational, information and cultural needs of the city dwellers. Since 2001 it has been fulfilling the tasks of a library for the Ostrołęka district.
The library offers attractive book stocks that comprise almost 200 thousand books, ca. 7,5 thousand of special book collections (among other things, audiobooks, DVDs and CDs, sheet music, collections of graphics and cartographic collections) and over 100 magazine titles.
The library has at its disposal the richest collection of regional artifacts concerning Ostrołęka and the Kurpie Region including, among other things, books, magazines, manuscripts, unpublished books, and social life documents.
For the past two years all readers have had the so called e-books at their disposal. The library is fully computerized. The readers can use an electronic catalogue that is also available on the Internet. It’s also possible for the readers to reserve books online. The library runs four estate branches, a children and youth branch, and a library point in the Convict Prison in Przytuły.
The library’s rich offer also includes meetings with writers, book promotion meetings, literature-music evenings, poetry competitions, poetry reciting and reading contests, shows, exhibitions presenting the achievements of local authors, educational classes for children and youth, literary, reciting and reading workshops for the young and adults.
